Oktoberfest 2021 – Postponed until 2022

The countdown is on to Australia’s best Oktoberfest! Want to know some news that will make this one particularly special?

A message from the team at The Only Oktoberfest

Well, this is the Wurst … and not the good kind …

All our pretzels were crossed that this message would never see the light of day. But the way the crackling has crumbled, the unpredictability of these circumstances has caused us to make the toughest of decisions – to postpone The Only Oktoberfest Brisbane until Oktober 2022.

They talk about decisions not being made lightly, but this one takes the Schwarzwälderkirschtorte {cake}. The team has worked tirelessly to bring lovers of German culture an authentic and immersive Festival experience in 2021 after the first postponement in 2020. COVID-19 has brought about some of the biggest challenges this little Bavarian Village has ever faced in order to deliver an authentic German experience. Solutions were found for everything this pandemic presented – from a real Bavarian Oompah band that didn’t need to travel half way around the globe, right through to traditional Bier brewed locally in accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law and using German ingredients .

But for now, it’s not to be. Why, you ask? For one, the health and safety of everyone, from patrons and partners to suppliers and crew. Every precaution was in place to deliver a COVID safe experience at the Festival. However, given the ever evolving situation and its continued impact on New South Wales and Victoria, and the risk this poses for Queensland, Oktoberfest Brisbane cannot proceed as planned.

Thanks to you, our loyal honorary Bavarians, 2021 was shaping up to be the best Festival yet with unprecedented numbers of tickets sold to date. You were on track for 35,000 of your closest mates to join you for 6 days of celebrations with live Oompah music, accompanied by fantastic Bier & the best German food this side of the equator.

Thank you to our valued partners, suppliers, crew and of course Brisbane’s German community. All of you contribute in your own special way to help make sure Oktoberfest Brisbane remain true to its Munich roots. It’s because of you that Australia’s biggest authentic German celebration will come back bigger and better than ever in 2022.

Now for the good news: It’s not a good bye, it’s a Prost-ponement! Lovers of German culture will again unite at Oktoberfest Brisbane 2022 on 7–9 & 14–16 Oktober 2022 at the Brisbane Showgrounds.

This reunion will be one not to miss – you’ll be eating, drinking, yodelling and dancing like never before! You can look forward to linking arms and clinking steins again SOON. Until then, stay safe and raise a stein in knee-slapping anticipation of what Oktober 2022 will bring Brisbane’s way.

Prost!
